CIRCUS OF POWER Frontman Launches CAPTAIN ZAPPED
April 6, 2010According to a posting on the official web site of reactivated late '80s/early '90s hard rockers CIRCUS OF POWER, the band's frontman, Alex Mitchell, and Billy Tsounis (UNCLE MAX, FAT NANCY) are collaborating on a new "space pop" project together called CAPTAIN ZAPPED. A song from the band will be posted on Mitchell's MySpace page shortly.
Commented CIRCUS OF POWER's webmaster: "I have heard a couple tracks and it's very cool. It reminds me of 'Lost In Space' from the short-lived CANDY PIGS project.
"Alex and Billy have an impressive body of work under their belts and I'm happy to see new music from this eccentric pairing."
Argentinean rock journalist Lucas H. Gordon, who currently resides in Hollywood, California, conducted an interview with Mitchell when CIRCUS OF POWER played the Knitting Factory in Hollywood on June 27, 2009. Watch the chat below.
CIRCUS OF POWER last year had its classic 1988 self-titled debut album reissued through Rock Candy Records. The LP, which was originally issued through RCA Records, was remastered and includes a 14-page booklet as well as a 4,000-word essay about the band.
A tribute album to CIRCUS OF POWER entitled "Working For The Machine" was made available via the band's official web site, CircusOfPower.net.
In 2006, CIRCUS OF POWER played two 20th anniversary shows — the first in Austin, Texas at Elysium on June 3 during the Republic of Texas Biker Rally, and the second in New York City at Don Hill's on September 27. The NYC performance included Queen Vixen and Honey 1Percenter from CYCLE SLUTS FROM HELL on backing vocals, with Daniel Rey (RAMONES) and Phil Caivano (MONSTER MAGNET) as guest performers. It was CIRCUS OF POWER's first New York performance in 12 years.
